Landing in New Zealand at the age of 7 from Korea – Ron’s mother taught him to embrace the holistic health benefits of taking supplements from a young age. Mussel powder is one of those supplements that have played a key role throughout his lifetime. Ron’s connection to mussel powder has only flourished and grown with him. As a natural entrepreneur, his first start-up Kōrure was only a natural step.

During the infancy of Kōrure’s development, our founder Ron Park began to realise the ethical concerns surrounding New Zealand-made fish oils. He realised many ‘New Zealand Made’ fish oils originated overseas. Many are of poor quality and uncertain background. This was especially alarming when Ron uncovered the unsustainable fishing practices employed by much of the fishing industry. 

Ron began to think. He “wanted something that was only available here in New Zealand, that was sustainable and couldn’t be faked”. He wanted the real deal. Ron’s persistent search led him to the New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussel (Perna canaliculus). The alternative showcased the best of New Zealand’s quality while being an ethical and sustainable product.
